How To Seat a Family of Nine

More boys means more chairs....broken chairs, that is.  Over the years we've collected all sorts of various chairs to fit everyone in - foldable, stackable, wooden, plastic, metal, fabric, etc.  Whatever worked.  They are well used for everything - eating, climbing, fort building, hair cuts, school time, lunch time, dragged down the hall and down the stairs.  Oh the stories chairs could tell....until they chip, crack, brake, fall apart and ultimately end up tossed in the back of a little trailer headed to the local dump.

Well, in efforts to rid ourselves of one more broken chair, and motivated by the need for one more spot at the table (3 more weeks til baby!) Jason went out and built us 2 one of a kind,  hand crafted, extremely sturdy table benches to fit our growing family.  He built them from the left over wood of an old water bed frame he had as a boy.  They turned out FABULOUS! (Maybe he missed his calling to be a carpenter??)

The finished work before varnishing...doesn't it look amazing!

Danika helped by sanding, staining, and varnishing her Dad's work of art.

The Nanny Cam

Now that we have teens in the house, we sometimes allow them to watch over the little one's if we have a few quick errands to run.  As I was looking through our camera to find a picture for something else, I found this little tid bit of  babysitter evidence:

hmmm...I was wondering wear Dad's hair gel went

Boys Will (Should) Be Boys

Before there were clothes,  before there were breakfasts, before there were coffee cups (gasp!),  there were....worms!

Mommy Brain:  Oh man, it's pouring rain out there today....what am I going to do to keep all the boys busy?

Boy Brain: Ya!  It's raining! Let's go search for drowning worms!

Friday Night Movie Night

Friday has been "movie night" for us since our eldest was very little. Popcorn, chips, blankets... it's been such a joy to watch our couch get smaller and cozier over the years as God adds new smiles and louder giggles!

Before the Movie.....

During the Movie...
Okay, this was just CUTE!

Proud Mommy Moments

Suddenly, it was quiet...too quiet.  And boyless, what happened to all my boys?  One turn of a corner and down a hallway would find this Mommy's ears tuned to a proud Mommy moment ...little giggles as our eldest sang to all his younger siblings  :0)

(Warning: song lyrics may include, but not be limited to, various names of  body
fluids, the destruction of things that break, and disgusting things people eat.)
A Proud Mommy Moment Indeed!

Who says -30 is bad weather?

All too often we take one shallow look at our circumstances and complain.  I'm usually the first one to complain about the weather, because it usually means I can't go outside.  Yikes!  Me, in this house with 5 boys and nowhere to hide! But God is SO good,  it didn't take long for Him to adjust my thinking and replace those backward thoughts with the counting of my abundant blessings!

-30 means we get to take hot baths and be wrapped up into blanket caterpillars!

-30 means we get to have the oven on 400 degrees all afternoon baking cinnamon buns!

-30 means we get to cuddle up together and watch movies downstairs!

-30 means we stay inside and enjoy each other!

A Little of What We Did Today....

The two little boys built couch forts... a favorite around here!
The older two boys packed and delivered papers.

If you squint real hard, you`ll see the boys building a snow fort in the dark.....8pm
Who says life has to be so hectic anyway?  Stop and smell the ...snow??
